The Alberta Jazz Ensemble is an auditioned jazz band open to high school aged students in the province of Alberta. It provides an advanced performance experience for those students who demonstrate excellence in leadership, musicality and engagement as well as an interest and understanding of the jazz idiom. North America's leading jazz educators work with students in an intense rehearsal process and the experience culminates in a Gala concert performance.
Admission to the Alberta Jazz Ensemble a is by audition. A panel of Alberta music educators evaluate the auditions and select the ensemble based on appropriate instrumentation and evaluation of the audition recordings and information provided by the auditionee. If we do not have enough applications in one particular area, we may put out a secondary call for auditions to the band community to ensure the best possible instrumentation for the ensemble. Directors/Teachers are encouraged to recommend their students to audition and/or have their ensemble members complete an individual audition.
Auditions are open November 3, 2025
The deadline for receipt of all audition materials is December 8, 2025
