Audition Process

There are two ways instrumentalists can audition for the Alberta Jazz Ensemble

Recommend Instrumentalists
Directors and teachers from across the province are encouraged to recommend their strongest instrumentalists from their high school programs for an audition. An audition form should be completed by each instrumentalist and is linked within the audition packet. The audition packet can be downloaded below. The deadline to submit audition materials is May 17, 2024

Apply for an Audition
Instrumentalists in high school may also independently audition for the Alberta Jazz Ensemble.

Submit Audition Material

Once the Recommendation Form or the Application for Audition has been received, an Audition Packet will be sent by email to each recommended instrumentalist. The Audition Packet contains detailed audition instructions; directors/teachers may help their students in preparing for their audition. The audition is made up of four parts including playing a chromatic scale, playing a jazz standard (a list of standards and charts will be provided), improvisation, and a brief questionnaire. Instrumentalists will submit audition materials online - nothing is mailed in.
