Q. What ages are accepted into the Alberta Jazz Ensemble?
A. The Alberta Jazz Ensemble is open to high school aged (grades 9-12) musicians.
Q. How many years of experience on an instrument is required?
A. Students with at least three years of experience on their instrument as well as experience in jazz band may audition.
Q. How much does it cost to participate in the Alberta Jazz Ensemble?
A. The registration fee is $175 and includes rehearsals, music, a t-shirt, and one meal.
Q. Where is the Alberta Jazz Ensemble held?
A. The 2019 residency will be held in conjunction with Music Conference Alberta in Calgary with a rehearsal weekend in Red Deer.
Q. Are students accepted by recommendation or audition?
A. Teachers may recommend their students audition for the ensemble. Ultimate selection will be based on auditions.

Recommend Instrumentalists for an Audition
Q. Can students apply themselves to audition?
A. Yes!! Students do not need to be recommended by their teacher for the AJE and can apply to audition on their own.

A. The deadline to submit audition recommendations & applications is May 3. The deadline for receipt of audition materials is May 24.

A. Once an application to audition or an audition recommendation has been received, students will be emailed the audition packet.
